Yagna, the Sacred Fire Ceremony

A Yagna is a small manifestation of the unbounded, vast, eternal Sacred Fire that exists in each one of us, invoked from the Womb of Creation.   Just as fire purifies whatever it touches, the sacred Yagna fire symbolically cleanses and purifies us, clearing the way for Divine Blessings.  We sit around the Kunda (fire pit), under the Shala (canopy) making our offerings inward, symbolizing that Truth and Divinity lie at the center of our lives and to remind us to look within.  Performing a Yagna burns the past contracts we have created, transmuting human limitations into Divine Unlimited Freedom, blessing and protecting all those who are choosing to serve the Light.

A traditional Yagna ceremony is conducted by a priest(s), specially trained in the Vedic traditions of India.  A series of Pujas are performed first to purify and prepare the area for the Yagna.  Then the sacred fire is lit.  Specific mantras are chanted to invoke the presence of sacred deities and to enliven the archetypal energies lying dormant within us.   Many specific items are offered into the fire accompanied by ghee (clarified butter).  As the smoke rises, it carries the powerful vibration of the sacred mantras instantly into our karma and throughout the universe.  These subtle vibrations contain the power to remove obstacles, manifest peace and perfection, and bring beauty, abundance, wisdom and spiritual attainment.  They are gateways to inner realms, to the Invincible Victory of Life.

Yagnas are often used in conjunction with a Jyotish (astrological) reading to reduce any negative effects or enhance the positive effects of our karmic tendencies.  Yagnas can be performed to provide help in any of the following areas:

 1. To removes blockages in one’s evolutionary path.
 2. To create or increase material abundance.
 3. For health issues.
 4. At the start of a new business or project.
 5. At the birth of a child.
 6. For departed relations.
 7. To improve relationships.
 8. For legal problems.
 9. For fertility.
10. To bless a marriage.
11. To bless a new home.
12. For education.
13. For world peace.
14. For spiritual maturity.

To have the opportunity to participate in a Yagna for westerners is quite rare.  However, to be able to participate in Yagna with the blessings of an Enlightened Master such as Her Holiness Sai Maa Lakshmi Devi is truly exceptional and a great privilege.  Yagnas are one of Sai Maa’s great gifts to us and to the world.

The following are some of the Yagnas our Beloved Sai Maa has created for us.
