Local Humanitarian Projects
Here are what HIU Centers in the United States are doing for their communities:

Humanity In Unity in Colorado Springs, CO
January 2009

Here is a description from Catherine Yeager and Mary McKeon, Center Leads in Colorado Springs.  They share the results of giving Pure Light Blessings (Diksha) and Reiki to patients at a local Hospice Center.  Both have been offering energy healing in a number of Hospice Care Centers as a community service project of their Center.

We began our Hospice service work in March 2008.  We’ll share the results we’ve had with two patients, we’ll call them L & M, both diagnosed with Dementia.

On our first visit, they were both in fetal positions with no response to us or other stimulus.  We gave them Diksha and Reiki, and continued our visits.  After several sessions, they had both begun to move from bed to wheelchair and seemed somewhat alert.  We offered several more treatments, and eventually both patients were alert, recognized us and remembered our names.  They asked us about the wonderful energy work we were giving them.  By Thanksgiving, one of these patients was able to be home with her family for two days.  The other is reading and has a wonderful sense of humor.

The amazing thing about these results is that nothing in the patients’ treatment plan has changed since we have been working with them except for the Pure Light Blessings and Reiki we have consistently offered.  The medical doctor there is amazed at the change in their health.

From the beginning, we have felt the Presence of Sai Maa deeply in our work.  We are both incredibly grateful for this opportunity to share the Light we have received so freely.

Humanity In Unity Center in Redding, CA
October 2008

The Grass Valley Sai Maa-Satuwa Baba Center for Enlightenment has been giving energy work to the staff of our local hospice center.  Seva volunteers from our group give the Hospice Staff healing sessions something like a personal session at an event.  Hospice Staff members come to massage tables where volunteers from our group bring in Sai Maa's presence with the intention of divine love, directing healing energy to the chakras of the person on the table.  We don't talk much during these sessions and offer a small glass of water after we help clients off the table.  Seva volunteers remark on how quickly the room gets filled with powerful Shakti and how much they enjoy giving.

The Hospice Team has given us lots of positive feedback on our work.  We have served doctors, personal care workers, secretarial staff and numerous repeat clients and have been told from several nurses and social workers that this is the highlight of their month.  Due to the enthusiasm from both givers and receivers, we set up three massage tables at a time in the main conference room of this busy office building.  The volunteer coordinator offers these sessions as an employee benefit, and people work their lunch hour around getting a half-hour treatments.  With many tears and smiles, we have witnessed beautiful healing of grief and personal struggles through these sessions.

This Hospice Center is moving to a new building this month, and we hope to be able to offer diksha not only to the staff but to grieving family members as well, serving more people than we can schedule on massage tables. We have a wonderful group of volunteers, and they are such a pleasure to be with to spread the blessings of Sai Maa out into our community.

Humanity In Unity Center in Redding, CA
September 2008

The Humanity In Unity Redding, CA center, headed by Ellen Simonis, has been actively seeking and finding projects for our meditation group to volunteer our services. Our Services Project Director, Deidra Schweitzer, peers with very special eyes into the heart of our community and, sadly, finds no lack of need for our support.

On a regular basis, we go to a Faithworks, a transitional housing program dedicated to families trying to get their feet under them and prepare and serve a meal. The families are taught to socialize and contribute to the meals by bringing beverages or desserts. Recently, we made sandwiches and cookies to serve at our local rescue mission.

These projects have become a part of our group work and we look forward to the events. Not only do we strengthen our community but we continue to strengthen our bond as a group. We are connecting the spaces between the energy matrix and the human matrix with love. Join us in being Humanity in Action!

Sai Maa and Satuwa Baba Institute for Enlightenment in Boulder, CO
August 2008

Overflowing with the Shakti of Abundance, the Boulder Institute for Enlightenment is enjoying the first fruits of a happy vegetable garden.  The garden, which was planted by the Humanity In Unity staff, is bursting with zucchini, summer squash, basil and pumpkins—as well as the promise of more on the way.  It has been a delight for all of us to watch the unfolding of this project, from digging up very rocky soil, planting seeds and vines late in the season, to the joy of harvesting fresh produce.

Our garden was planted with the intention of serving the larger Boulder community with food for those in need.  In its first weeks, it has already supplied a hefty load of produce for Boulder County’s Meals on Wheels program, with weekly deliveries scheduled through the remainder of the season.

In these past months, the process of creating and tending the garden has been a great joy for our staff.  Whether planting, watering, weeding or merely standing in the midst of such bounty, all have been blessed by participating.
